The Battle for the Prophecy The Battle for the Prophecy |
Please e-mail me with any comments or suggestions, any faults or corrections for my story, or even to let me know what you think about my masterful illustration. I am especially fond of constructive criticism (instead of just telling me that it’s wrong, tell me what’s wrong).
The main purpose of this story was to explain what happened to Luna, Ron and Ginny while they were separated from Harry. I found this particularly interesting because it was skimmed over so lightly in the book, and because Luna was the only one who managed to weather the experience unscathed. In other words, I wanted a blow-by-blow account of their part of the battle. Additionally, Luna is the most interesting character in the Harry Potter series, and here we see that she is not only colorful, but also capable.
You will also notice that I do not describe Luna at all. This is because the story is intended to be from her point of view. She does not hear herself speaking dreamily, or see her own bulging eyes. This is Luna, what she sees and hears and, at times, what she thinks and feels and says, but always how she perceives it, never how she is perceived.
Another thing you may notice is that I use a few advanced words. Luna is the daughter of a newspaper editor, and she appears to read every word of every issue, backward, forward and upside down. Luna probably has the largest vocabulary of any student at Hogwarts, and likely thinks with these advanced words, even if she doesn’t use them in her speech.
The word orrery: it’s a real word, and it refers to a device that mimics the motion of the planets in the solar system.
Finally, what happened in the Orrery Room after Luna & company left? Bellatrix managed to retrieve a wand and, taking a hint from Luna, organized the others to get one person out and Locomotor the rest out, using Accio to retrieve their wands. Since the other door was charmed closed, she chose the still-open door leading to the Hall of Prophecies. It only took a few moments, and they decided it was better to pursue Harry and the prophecy than the three they had just encountered. Therefore, Bellatrix and the other Death Eaters left through the now-uncharmed entrance into the Hall of Time and then to the Black Hallway. This is why Bellatrix and the Death Eaters appeared through a different door than Luna and her friends.
