Harry had been thrust into this completely unprepared. The formal little speech he had mentally rehearsed was a victim of his sudden panic. “Er, well, you know, I thought that maybe, you know, after a nice dinner, and it’s our anniversary and all, you know, the day you won the Quidditch match, when I was in detention with Snape, and you were Seeker, and Gryffindor beat Ravenclaw four hundred and fifty to a hundred and forty, and I thought we might, you know, do what people do . . . ”
Ginny couldn’t take any more dithering. “Yes! Yes! I’ll marry you. If I waited for you to get around to actually asking me . . .” And then she kissed him.
It hurt, she was touching the lump on his head, but he didn’t pull away. When she paused for a moment, Harry imagined that he heard the voice of a Quidditch commentator: Harry Potter miraculously takes hold of the Golden Snitch and turns certain disaster into glorious victory! Harry Potter: 1000, The Universe: . . . And then she was kissing him again.
