Chapter Five

The Wizarding Floor

Last was a knight in full plate armor, wearing a crown and carrying a large, black mace.  This figure was made of iron but his armor and weapons, like that of the other figures, were exquisite.  On his large red shield was the figure of two heraldic lions in battle, “gules, two lions combatant or.”  “King Richard the Lionhearted” her father identified.

Walking around the statue, Luna finally noticed the extravagantly carved gold reception desk near the door opposite the elevator.  Holding out the envelope to the goblin attendant, she smiled and said, “Hello, I have an appointment.”

The receptionist opened the envelope and examined the page inside.  “How should I announce you?” the attendant asked in a polite voice much less gravelly than common for goblins.

Some of my concerns:
  • Can you see the statuette of King Richard?
  • Did you notice the resemblence — and contrast — with the statue in the Ministry Atrium?

Luna’s mind raced.  She stared at the receptionist for a very long moment before arriving at a solution.  “Filia Veneris,”6 she answered finally.

“Very well, Ms. Veneris.  May I please have your shoe size?”

A surprised Luna gave it automatically.  From behind the desk, the attendant produced a gold-plated box containing a pair of fine leather slippers.  “Please have a seat and put these on while I inform the Public Relations Officer that you are here.  Place your own footwear in the box and I will secure it until you are ready to leave.”

Luna thanked the receptionist, who then pressed one of several buttons that sprouted from a device on her desk.  “Excuse me, sir,” the attendant spoke into the device, “your eleven-thirty is here.”

Some of my concerns:
  • What do you think about the shoe thing?  Nice touch?  Waste of space?
